Fathers Day Working Party

The next working party will be held on Sun 20th Jun at Totham Pit and Bog Grove as trimming up swims at both venues is our top priority.  Please meet at the container at 8am if you would like to help.

Members – why not take a guest along?

With another Bank Holiday weekend fast approaching please remember that if you have a credit card and a printer you can take a guest (or partners - rule 29i refers) fishing at any of our stillwaters for £7.50 by purchasing an online guest.ticket. If you prefer the more traditional methods of buying a ticket they are also available from the membership secretary and local tackle shops for £8.  The traditional method of payment also allows for £5 concessions/juniors.  Please remember that you cannot take more than one guest at a time unless they are partners.

Workparty on Sunday 28th February

The next working party will be held on Sunday 28th February.  Please meet up at the Totham Pit container at 8am.  The exact nature of the works to be carried out will be decided on the day but are likely to include some or all of the following dependant upon turnout:

Totham Pit tidy up and swim trimming.

Bog Grove tidy up and swim trimming (the access track also requires maintenance work and a tree surgeon will deal with the large fallen tree).

Slough House Farm entrance and fence repairs.

Laurence would like to thank all of the regular attendees at work parties throughout 2009 and looks forward to your continued support in 2010.

Night fishing

The committee have decided to revert to a single night permit covering all of our night fishing venues for the coming season.  This decision is partly down to a lack of people on the Totham Pit night syndicate waiting list and also to relieve some of the pressure on Howells Lake.  The price of the new night permit has been set half way between the two existing figures at £65 and now allows:

  • Night fishing at Totham Pit all year round
  • Night fishing at Howells Lake all year round
  • Night fishing at Beckingham Hall all year round
  • Night fishing at Slough House Farm between 1st April and 31st October
  • Night fishing at Bog Grove between 1st October and 30th April
  • Use of 3 rods between 1st October and 31st March on all venues

Please note: The maximum length of a night session on Slough House Farm is still 2 days / 1 night followed by a 24 hour break.  The other venues remain as 4 days / 3 nights followed by a 24 hour break.

Please remember that members under the age of 16 cannot buy a night permit.  These must be purchased on their behalf by a current adult night permit holder.

My First Fish of 2010

Paul Kyffin decided to venture out to Bog Grove after lunch on New Years Day only to find it 95% frozen.  However there was one other angler fishing and a short while after breaking the marginal ice and positioning his two hookbaits the bailiff, Allan Knight, arrived.  Whilst they chatted Paul had a take and landed a 9lb Common.  After taking the photos Allan wandered round to the other angler’s swim and he promptly landed a Roach.  As darkness fell the ice free water began to re-freeze but not before a couple more Roach and a Common of just under 7lb were landed, proving that if you can get a bait in the water fish can be tempted to feed in the coldest of weather.

Fishing Open Day on Sunday 12th July – Everybody Welcome

Whether you are an experienced angler but not a MAS member or just fancy coming along to see what fishing is all about join us on Sunday 12th July at one of our most popular venues. MAS members will be on hand to give advice on match, pleasure and carp fishing. Everyone is welcome whatever your age; juniors (accompanied by an adult), adults, pensioners, families especially welcome. Bring your gear and fish for free, if you haven’t got a rod a limited number will be available for you to try.

Anyone who picks up an application form on the day and joins within 14 days gets a generous 20% discount on any of our membership categories.

The venue is ‘Bog Grove’ (don’t worry it’s much nicer than the name suggests) which has a great head of carp to around 20lbs, crucian carp, tench and rudd. We’ll start at 1000 and finish at 1700, just turn up at a time that suits you.
