Unfortunately John Woodham’s Concessionary/Match article arrived just after the soon to be distributed winter newsletter had been printed. The article is reproduced here:
Hi Lads and Lassies this is your good looking sec “Woody” reporting in. Well I hope you all enjoyed our club and concessionary matches last year, we did have some excellent attendances and I hope they get better. I am sorry I had to change a few booked venues last year but I did my best to let you all know, I wish I could control the weather. Some excellent trophy matches were fished in 2009 and I thought I would mention a few names that took the honours. Allen Freeman, Vic Dadd, Steve Root, Kelvin Willis and greedy Dave Harley who managed to bag two. A new cup was presented to the club last year “The Stanley Farrer Cup” this was fished on the canal at the Golf Coarse stretch and was convincingly won by L Druce. All who remembered Stanley Farrer remember him as a gentleman Angler, and thanks must go to his wife Joan, who also enjoyed the sport. Thanks to all those members who have supported the match scene and I hope we have a better year this year. One more thank you must go to your head bailiff Kim Naish who on many occasions cleared the swims so we could hold a match. I hope to see you on the bank in 2010. Full nets - Woody.
