Mudwatch

I have been reminded (after a new member got stuck in the mud at New Hall) to resurrect this Mudwatch post:

Extreme caution (6) (unless you own a 4WD vehicle):

Brick Kiln Pond – the car park is churned up.  We will forgive you for parking outside the gate under these circumstances.
Little Park 1 & 2 – the track is good but in regular use by farm vehicles.  There is now a new key padlock on the white gates.  The grass car park can get very slippery.
New Hall – the access track is good but please do not drive beyond the water works entrance as the car park is extremely muddy and you will probably get stuck.
Slough House West – the car park in the farm yard is churned up and treacherous.
Whitehouse Farm – re-opened 1st Feb – Water level very high.  Pages Lane is firm but pot-holed (work in progress to repair).  The side track is muddy but the car park is OK if you can get that far.  Please do not try and drive beyond the car park as this is all churned up:

The banks at Whitehouse Farm are now slippery as well following extensive works to clear the undergrowth around the lake:

Good/Fair (11):

Beckingham Hall – fine if you park just inside the gate on the right but increasingly iffy the further up the slope you go.
Bog Grove – the track has now been repaired and the car park resurfaced so as long as you keep off the grassy bits all will be OK.  Bark chippings have been applied to some of the paths and swims but please proceed to your swim with extra caution as the sloping banks are made of clay and can be very slippery underfoot.
Heron Hall – firm track and car park but fairly tight for turning round.  The small layby opposite the gate is flooded again.
Little London – the access is firm but uphill, the car park has been resurfaced.  Turning round can be a bit tight.
Howells – the track is firm although the car park can get a bit churned up due to regular use.
Railway Pond – parking on the tarmac spur road.  Water level high.
River Blackwater (Station Road) – the entrance to the car park has been improved with hardcore and the car park is much firmer than it looks.  Under no circumstances park outside of the car park and especially not in front of the entrance to the horses field!
Rook Hall 1,2 & 3 – re-opened 1st Feb – solid car park just inside the gate on the right.  Please do not drive on the grass.  Water levels high.
Slough House Farm – the car park is sound but there is a large puddle just outside the gate.  Please do not drive up the side of the car park.  The padlock has been changed to a combination lock to hopefully make it easier to get in and out.
Totham Pit – well established hard standing, no problems here.

Crucians stocked into New Hall

Our anonymous benefactor is wondering if anyone has caught any of the crucian that we stocked into New Hall yet?  If you have please drop the webmaster a line or to at webmaster@maldonas.co.uk:

“Today Monday 4 May I went to New Hall for a spot of fishing, I was hoping to catch some Crucian Carp! I started in one of my favourite swims and after two hours I had not had a bite!! I moved to a swim next to the large Lilly Pad and I struggled to get bites but managed about half a pound of very small Roach and Rudd but no Crucian’s. I have never had such a bad day at New Hall in the past, always having a good bag of nice size Roach, Rudd and small Bream.  I noticed that someone had been fishing at some time in the first swim by the Lilly pad it would be nice to know what sort of session they had. So I was wondering if by the web people could post their reports of New Hall.” – Anon.

With a big thank you to the anonymous member who donated £500 to us to buy crucian carp for New Hall reservior I am now pleased to confirm that 85 crucian have been introduced to New Hall.  Probably around 30lbs in all – good size fish, the largest about 8oz.

New Hall is closed to fishing for the month of April so these fish will have a month to settle in before fishing resumes on Friday 1st May.

June water closures

The following fisheries will be closed in June:

Sun 16th Jun:  Canal at Tesco and Slough House Farm for the Senior & Concessionary pairs match – see page 40 of the rulebook
Sun 23rd Jun:  New Hall Reservoir for the Interclub match (see below)
Sun 23rd Jun:  Canal at Heybridge Basin for Chelmsford AA match
Sun 23rd Jun:  Rook Hall for Blackwater Coutry Show – see page 37 of rulebook.

New Hall closed to members on Sun 23rd June

New Hall lake at Purleigh vineyard will be closed to members on Sun 23rd Jun as the interclub league are ten pegs short for their match on this day as one of the Billericay lakes at Southminster has been drained. The committee have agreed that New Hall can be closed to members on this day for the interclub match to take place.  The upside for members is that to host this match more swims have now been opened up and New Hall now has 11 fishable pegs.

New Hall now has 15 fishable swims again.

New Hall update

I have cut three more swims out and there are now six swims to fish from. I was extremely disappointed to find that someone had left litter in one of the new swims and wonder why I put the effort in to make the swims! Take Your Rubbish Home! I fished one of the new swims, fishing was not as good as the last time however I had three fish all about 1lbs 8oz Roach, Bream and an Eel (wonder if 1 lb 8oz is the maximum!) plus a lot of small Roach and Rudd.  Thanks - Kim.
