Please treat our biggest asset with care

Members and guests are reminded to treat the fish they catch with the respect they deserve and always use a suitable sized landing net and an unhooking mat.  Current rule (6.9) states that an unhooking mat is only compulsory when fishing for carp and pike but this will change on the 1st April 2017 to try and prevent fish of any species being laid on the ground.  This rule change does not take immediate effect to allow everyone plenty of time to buy a mat that is suitable for both them and the fish they catch.  Please ensure in hot weather that your mat is sufficiently ‘wetted down’ or covered with a wet weigh sling to further protect your catch.

Please don’t dump leftover bait on the bankside

Members are reminded that dumping unwanted bait on the bank at the end of a session is breaking rule 7.3 – ‘Surplus bait must not be left on the bank’ as this encourages rodents around our fisheries and most of the rats are large enough already.
Our bailiffs are on the lookout for the couple who fished peg 16 at Little Park and departed leaving this pile of bait behind:

CCTV at entrance to Howells

Members are reminded that CCTV is in operation at the entrance to Howells and our use of the gate is being monitored via a multi-screen security set-up.

Members caught (on camera) damaging the gate or padlock are subject to expulsion from the club.

Parking at River Blackwater in Station Road – Important

Members fishing the River Blackwater at Station Road in Wickham Bishops are reminded that under no circumstances should they park outside of the designated Maldon AS parking area.  Our car park is the triangle of land on the left of the entrance through the lockable gate.  Any member caught blocking the entrance to the fields which are sign posted ‘Please, no parking’ will be liable to disciplinary action (page 32 of your 2015 rulebook refers).

Rule changes

At the December committee meeting the following rule changes were agreed:

Rule 5.6 – it was agreed that non-disposable BBQs can be used between 1st Oct and 31st Mar but disposable BBQs are still banned.

Rule 2.2 – it was agreed that night permit holders can now fish 2 consecutive nights on Slough House Farm between 1st Nov and 31st Mar (the all year round toilet facility and the fact that there are no matches at Slough House Farm after the end of Oct was taken into consideration).
