Totham Pit will appear extra busy on Sat 16th Aug

If you are planning on fishing Totham Pit on Sat 16th Aug don’t panic when you arrive and find the car park full of cars as most of their occupants will not be fishing and hopefully your favourite swim will still be free.  If you can find a parking space the lake is open to all members for fishing.

Breaking news – new fishery to open on 1st July

I am pleased to confirm that Paul and Denise will be announcing at the Blackwater Country Show that we have secured the fishing rights on a new fishery, which if all goes to plan, will open to members on Tuesday 1st July.  Paul has some photos of the new lake which is only a stones throw away from another of our fisheries.  I am yet to see the new lake but hear it is a bit smaller than Bog Grove and is well established with an island and reed fringed margins.  Fish stocks are believed to include lots of roach and carp to mid doubles.  More information will follow here before the new lake opens to members on the 1st July.  Please do not visit the new lake  (if you think you know where it is) until the 1st July as signage and some bankside works are yet to be completed.  Fishing will be from 5am to 10pm with no night fishing.

Gavin St Leger is a custom rod builder and is running another rod building course in Colchester on the 2nd and 3rd of November.  If any members are interested he is offering a 10% discount, all you have to do is write Maldon Club where it asks for the promotional code.  There are a couple of guys from Total Sea Fishing magazine on the course at the moment and there are 5 spaces left.  If you are interested you can either visit Gavin’s website or contact him on 01206 579 532 or 07907 445653.

Open day at Totham Pit on Sun 21st Jul

We are having an open day at Totham Pit in Great Totham (CM9 8NN) on Sunday 21st July 2013 between 9.30am and 4pm offering free fishing for all with no rod licence required.  Membership discounts are also available if you pick up an application form on the day.  Please note that all children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.  For more details contact Denise on 01621 857427.  Members are reminded that Totham Pit is still open to members/night fishing, as long as they don’t mind hopefully loads of people walking past, and even stopping to chat.

Totham Pit – the venue for this year’s open day.

Open day date for your diary

The date of our open day has just been announced.  This year it will be held on Sunday 21st July at Totham Pit to coincide with national fishing week from 19th – 26th July.  The lake will not be closed to members on this day, in fact the more the merrier!  Totham Pit has twice as many swims as Bog Grove (our usual venue) so there will be plenty of room for everyone.  More details will follow closer to the day.

When the open day comes round Totham Pit won’t look like this shot taken in January…

Carnival Float

It has been suggested that we might want to enter a float (not a 3BB waggler before anyone thinks of suggesting it) into this years Maldon carnival as we used to in days gone by.  If any members are interested in joining Tim, our senior match secretary, on the MAS float please contact him by email so we can gauge interest.
