Find us at the Blackwater Country Show on Sunday 19th June

We will again have a stand at the Blackwater Country Show at Rook Hall so if you are in attendance please drop in and say hello to Paul & Denise.  If you are not yet a member for the 2016-17 season, and you pick up one of our special yellow application forms on the day, you can claim 20% discount on our daytime membership fees by posting the form off to the membership secretary or by taking it up to JP Tackle in Maldon High Street.  Paul and Denise will also be selling MAS hoodies, beanies, polo shirts, baseball caps etc.  Please remember that all three lakes at Rook Hall are closed to fishing on Sunday 19th June as the area is used for parking etc.

Minutes of 2016 annual general meeting

The AGM went off smoothly on Sun 17th Jan and any other business saw some lively discussion regarding the Chelmer & Blackwater canal.  For the full transcript of events please view these AGM 16 Minutes and Fishery Management report for 2016 AGM.

The first slide of the presentation, only 79 more to go…

For those who missed our annual general meeting…

We held our AGM on Sunday 18th January 2015 and for those who missed it here are the AGM 15 Minutes and the Fishery Management report for 2015 AGM.

In brief the proposal to ban keepnets was rejected and the proposal that everyone representing Maldon AS in team events must have attended at least 20% of club matches in the previous twelve months was accepted.

Next working party – Howells will be closed on Sun 23rd Nov

The next working party will be held on Sunday 23rd November at Howells and the boat will be used to dredge out fallen branches and trim back bushes around the island.  All members are welcome to help out, please meet up in the car park at Totham Pit at 8am to help load up the boat or from 8.30am at Howells if you are able to assist.  This opportunity will also be used to trim back any overgrown swims.  Howells will be closed from 8am for the whole day, but those helping at the workparty can fish there in the afternoon.

Fishery Management Officer Paul Kemp with a 21lb Common caught from Howells.

Raking around the island to remove fallen branches and lost tackle, such as this bird’s nest of line, will benefit both the carp and those fishing Howells in the future.

Totham Pit will appear extra busy on Sat 16th Aug

If you are planning on fishing Totham Pit on Sat 16th Aug don’t panic when you arrive and find the car park full of cars as most of their occupants will not be fishing and hopefully your favourite swim will still be free.  If you can find a parking space the lake is open to all members for fishing.

Breaking news – new fishery to open on 1st July

I am pleased to confirm that Paul and Denise will be announcing at the Blackwater Country Show that we have secured the fishing rights on a new fishery, which if all goes to plan, will open to members on Tuesday 1st July.  Paul has some photos of the new lake which is only a stones throw away from another of our fisheries.  I am yet to see the new lake but hear it is a bit smaller than Bog Grove and is well established with an island and reed fringed margins.  Fish stocks are believed to include lots of roach and carp to mid doubles.  More information will follow here before the new lake opens to members on the 1st July.  Please do not visit the new lake  (if you think you know where it is) until the 1st July as signage and some bankside works are yet to be completed.  Fishing will be from 5am to 10pm with no night fishing.
