Mark Jowers recently contacted us to let us know he caught ‘Willow’ at 30lb 4oz at 3 in the morning on the 6 April 2009. The weight is unverified as Mark was unable to wake his friend fishing on another part of the lake. This is Marks first year with Maldon Angling Society and his first 30lb carp so good news for Mark all round and well done!

Very productive work party – 29/03/09

Yet another very productive work party took place on Sunday 29th of March. Eleven people attended, and we split into two groups, one group went off to Beckingham hall and put up some new fencing to hopefully stop people driving into & around the fishery.

They then moved onto slough house to repair the concrete strip that allows the gate to open properly. While they were there they also had to do a bit of locksmith work, as somebody had managed to lock the gate in such a way, that it was impossible to unlock.

The second group stayed at Totham pit and worked on tidying up around the whole water, this included getting out in the boat, and cutting back trees and bushes that could not be reached from the bank, also clearing the reeds of any old bits of fishing tackle, and any rigs that had become caught over the last few years. They also took the opportunity to close off the swim that had been cut out round by floaters bay.

A lot of the trees and bushes that needed to be cut down have been stacked up so that they can dry out a bit prior to being burnt, so if you see piles of dead wood laying about, rest assured that it will not be around for long.

If anyone feels that there is a particular water that needs some attention on a future work party, then please contact a member of the Fishery Management Team, who will be more than happy to discuss your ideas and suggestions, for any work you feel needs to be carried out.

My thanks goes to Pete Newell, Andy Thomas, Dean Andrews, Neil Dunn, Dan Gower, Sam Gower, Malcolm Gardiner, Matt Gothard, Sam Reeder & Paul Kemp for all their hard work. (if I missed anyone sorry)

Tight Lines to you all
Kind Regards

Rule Reminder – New Swims

Due to one or maybe more of our Members taking it upon themselves to cut out a new swim, and also cut or hack branches off of an oak tree in another swim at Totham Pit. I would like to remind all members of a couple of the society rules, which are as follows.

(Rule 9)

On waters where swims are already provided no member shall cut down extra reeds or vegetation.

On waters where swims are not provided, members shall be allowed to cut down only sufficient reeds & vegetation to form a swim.

Trees are not to be cut or otherwise damaged on any society water at any time except as deemed necessary by the Fishery Management Officer. (Rule 9)

(Rule 1)

The breaking of any society rule will result in disciplinary action, which could include withdrawal of membership by the committee.

If any member feels that more swims are needed on one of our waters, then they should get in touch with a member of the Fishery Management Team, then if it is agreed that there is a need for extra swims, the work can be carried out at an organised work party.

Tight Lines to you all

Purchase Guest Tickets Online

It’s back! It’s taken sometime but we are pleased to announce you can again purchase your guest tickets online. You’ll find a link on the top menu or under the membership heading menu. Remember guests can claim up to £5.50 off full membership if they decide to join and provide proof of purchase.

We recommend you following the instructions shown on the page fully, failure to complete the required fields correctly could result in both you and your guest being asked to leave the waters edge. We would also like to remind you that you are responsible for your guest actions so it’s probably best to provide them with a copy of the MAS Rules which you can now download – Maldon Angling Society Club Rules. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (free software) to view and print the rules.
