Rook Hall and Whitehouse Farm Re-Open

Rook Hall and Whitehouse Farm re-open for fishing after their respective 4 month close seasons on Tuesday 1st Feb 2011.  Members are reminded that fishing at Rook Hall is from dawn until dusk only while fishing at Whitehouse Farm is permitted between 5am and 10pm (no night fishing allowed).  Please proceed with caution when approaching and parking at both of these fisheries as water levels are still very high and parking areas are likely to be very soft.  Even the Chairman managed to get stuck at Whitehouse Farm last year and needed to have his car pushed out of the mud by two other anglers, so nobody is completely safe from the ‘dreaded wheelspin’.

Club Match venue changed on Sun 3rd October

This weekend’s club match on Sun 3rd Oct will not be held at Whitehouse Farm as shown in the rulebook but will be fished on the Chelmer and Blackwater navigation at Cuton.  Proceed to Sandford Lock and just before the lock turn left as if you are going to Cuton Lake and when you get to the lake gates you should see us all.  Draw is at 0830 but its good to get there about 0800.  Look forward to seeing you.

Mistake in Rulebook

Please note that page 33 of the current red rulebook should state that the season for Whitehouse Farm is 1st Feb to 30th Sep and NOT 31st Oct.  The correct dates do appear on page 17.  Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Whitehouse Farm is closed on 1st Oct for 4 months and re-opens on 1st Feb.

October approaches

October is a time of change on Maldon’s waters:

  • Night permit holders can use 3 rods on ALL venues from 1st Oct.
  • Ashmans Farm and the two River Blackwater sections at Braxted (lock number 5118) cease to be Maldon AS fisheries on 1st Oct.
  • Night fishing starts on Bog Grove but don’t expect to get much sleep at this heavily stocked venue, at least until after the first few frosts.
  • Rook Hall and Whitehouse Farm close for their winter shooting breaks.
  • Night fishing at Slough House Farm ceases at the end of October.

Day Breaming

Two anglers shared a 28 bream haul at Totham Pit on Sunday.  We don’t have any photos of that haul but the Membership Secretary turned up late in the day to land his first 7lb+ bream from the venue.  He takes up the story……

I arrived at Totham Pit late afternoon before the rain set in to find 5 cars in the car park.  I love the shallows at this time of the year but the previous Sunday the resident pair of swans had made my attempts to fish a three foot deep swim almost impossible so I opted for the deeper margins of the wooded bank.  My peperami over groundbait approach only brought one bite but it was a 7lb 4oz bream.  This is my third MAS 7lb+ bream, the others coming from Whitehouse Farm (7lb 10oz) in April and my PB 7lb 13oz from Slough House Farm last year.  I know that Little Park and Little London have both produced 7lb+ bream in the past so I could yet increase my tally.

Whitehouse Farm opens

If the weather remains dry the track at our newest venue, Whitehouse farm close to Tolleshunt Darcy, should be accessible.  Some of the pot holes have been filled in but please take extra care as proper resurfacing of the track is yet to take place.  The Head Bailiff has put up temporary parking notices, and caught a couple of double figure carp while he was there, so if you fancy giving this venue a go please view this Whitehouse Farm Rulebook Page for directions and additional info.
