Changes at Little Park Top Lake

Following the sale of the field on the east bank bordering Little Park Top lake (over the footbridge on the left as you exit the car park) the east bank is now out of bounds to members.  Fishing is now from the west bank closest to the car park only.  A sign stating that the east bank is now private will be put up soon.  The sale of land does not affect the main lake with the island at all and members can still fish all around the main lake.  Apologies for any inconvenience caused, Little Park Top Lake has been fishing well recently following a stocking of silver fish.

Top three pole sections lost at Little Park

Lost top three sections of my pole whilst fishing on peg 6 at Little Parks island lake recently.  As I was pulling sections apart from my pole a large carp came up and pulled it from my hands. It was fitted with line and float etc (barbless hook) so hopefully managed to dislodge ok.  Have returned several times but no sightings yet.  Many thanks - Len.

If anyone finds Len’s missing pole sections please contact the membership secretary or email webmaster@maldonas.co.uk

Little Parks turn for a trim up

With a big thank you to Jamie and Ryan the swims and pathway around Little Parks have now been trimmed up as they were getting quite overgrown.

Before and after the trim up.

Some more good news is that the gravel hump on the access track where the landowner has laid an irrigation pipe has now been smoothed off.

and the leaking dam wall on Little Park Top Lake has been relined with clay and the whole area tidied up

Further trim ups are already underway at Slough House Farm and Totham Pit and others are planned for Slough House West and various sections of the canal.

Items found at Little Parks and Howells

We have a few found items, a set of 2 keys with ZOO embossed on them found over Little Park , also got a section of a bed chair leg left over Howells and there is a pair of glasses that were found over Little Park a couple of weeks ago.  Pictures of these items can be found on our lost and found page.  Please contact Jamie if any of these items belong to you.

Al’s big silver

This rather nice roach (or hybrid?) fell to two sweetcorn haired to a size 12 under a locslide float.  Here’s the obligatory ‘fish on a landing net and unhooking mat with float and rod for scale :-D ’ photo.  Didn’t have my scales with me (again!) runs about 31/32 cm long, the locslide float is 15cm long so there’s a measure.

Other than some pesky perch and a few more hand size roach a quiet day…. apart from the carp going doolally spawning and thrashing about.

As an aside this is my first year back regular fishing since I was a lad of 13/14 :-) so far this year I’ve had a 13lb pike the other week, a 5lb+ tench out of Rook Hall and a 10.6 common out of Little Park (that’s one of my personal goals for this year done a double carp, am still up for the 20lb pike) – Al.

Possible traffic disruption on Sun 25th Sep

Members are reminded that the Maldon Half Marathon is being run on Sunday 25th Sep and this might disrupt the flow of traffic near some of our fisheries such as the Railway Pond, Howells and Little Park.  Any member looking to drive through Maldon or Heybridge could get delayed.  For more info and a map of the route please see http://www.maldonhalfmarathon.com/.  Members heading back towards Maldon after the Howells carp match might need to find an alternative route.   Thank you to Dennis Sherwood for drawing this event to my attention.
