A hard match was fished at Totham Pit

A hard match was fished at Totham Pit with only two able to catch fish, Russell Samuels managed to land two nice Tench of 6lbs 3oz and 5lbs 3oz but he also lost three fish of a good weight. Following close behind him was Bill Woollcott with a massive Perch of 1oz 8drms which took him all of 5 seconds to land. Three other matchmen were unable to find any fish!!

Totham Pit treated with Siltex

Totham Pit was treated with Siltex over the weekend to try and improve the water quality and growth rates of the fish.  There are further plans to remove the weed that clogged up the shallows last season, if it returns this year, as the thick silt and de-oxygenation caused by the weed at night in the shallows are believed to be the main threat to the carp as the water warms up in the spring

The end of the season fast approaches

Just a reminder that all 2016-17 memberships expire at midnight this Friday 31st March.  As requested by the committee renewal forms for 2017-18 have not been automatically posted out to all members this year which has saved the society several hundred pounds on printing and postage which has already been re-invested in fish stocks (more ide have been purchased and stocked into Rook Hall, Slough House West and Heron Hall), Siltex to improve the water quality at Totham Pit and upgraded portaloos for Howells and Slough House Farm.  The renewal form has been emailed to all members who gave us their email address and posted out to anyone who supplied two stamped self addressed envelopes to the membership secretary when they joined.  You can also print off a copy of the renewal form here or from the membership renewal page.  If you do not have access to a printer simply send your membership card, cheque and stamped sae(s) to the membership secretary or take along your card and payment to one of our three agents (JP Tackle, Angling Essentials or Specimen Angling).

Any unsold Howells night permits are now available to members on the waiting list on a first come first serve basis. Availability can be checked on the Night Permits tab above.

Our first reported thirty of 2017

Pleased to say Howells has done its first 30 of the year over the weekend, still 2 months or more until spawning , we should see a few more over that time , most fish that are coming out are over 20lb with a lot of upper 20’s all looking nice.

Hopefully the thirties in Totham Pit and Slough House Farm will now follow suit and put in an appearance soon…

Work party at Totham Pit on Sunday 19th March

Totham Pit will be closed from 8am on Sunday 19th March (not Mothers Day) for a working party.  All members willing to help out should gather by the container at 8am.  Paul is hoping to co-ordinate some extensive trimming up and removal of underwater snags where fish are often lost.  This work is needed prior to an application of Siltex being applied to the lake to improve the water quality before the next batch of carp are stocked.  All help will be gratefully received and members who attend the working party and leave their name with Paul will accrue a 10% discount towards their 2018-19 daytime membership fee.

Pike Match cancelled

Unfortunately this Sunday’s (22nd Jan) open pike match on Totham Pit has been cancelled because the lake is frozen over.
