Open Pike Match at Totham Pit on Sun 26th Nov

Nigel Barnes is holding an open pike match at Totham Pit on Sunday 26th November and everyone, not just members are welcome.  Totham Pit has been fishing well for pike lately (see gallery) so if you have always fancied giving Totham Pit a go for pike this is your chance.  To book your place please contact Nigel on 07711 972099

All remaining senior matches are cancelled

Unfortunately all of our remaining senior club matches, which were all to be fished on the canal, have had to be cancelled following the unexpected resignation of our Senior Match Secretary Russ Samuels at the September committee meeting.  Russ stated that poor turnouts at recent matches had lead to his decision.  Russ was the longest serving member on the current committee and we thank him for all of his hard work over many years of service to the club.

If anyone else would like to pick up the reigns and run the remaining seven matches on the canal please contact one of the committee members as listed in the 2017 rulebook.

The open pike match at Totham Pit on Sunday 26th November will hopefully still be going ahead but any changes will be posted up as we hear them.

Al’s big silver

This rather nice roach (or hybrid?) fell to two sweetcorn haired to a size 12 under a locslide float.  Here’s the obligatory ‘fish on a landing net and unhooking mat with float and rod for scale :-D ’ photo.  Didn’t have my scales with me (again!) runs about 31/32 cm long, the locslide float is 15cm long so there’s a measure.

Other than some pesky perch and a few more hand size roach a quiet day…. apart from the carp going doolally spawning and thrashing about.

As an aside this is my first year back regular fishing since I was a lad of 13/14 :-) so far this year I’ve had a 13lb pike the other week, a 5lb+ tench out of Rook Hall and a 10.6 common out of Little Park (that’s one of my personal goals for this year done a double carp, am still up for the 20lb pike) – Al.

Pike Match cancelled

Unfortunately this Sunday’s (22nd Jan) open pike match on Totham Pit has been cancelled because the lake is frozen over.

River pike

Ian Hewett has been pike fishing on the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation and sent us this photo of a 14lb pike caught on a smelt from Heybridge Basin

Ian also caught a twenty from Hoe Mill weir on float/ledgered Mackerel which appears in the gallery.

Thank you to Ian for also pointing out that our upload photo page had fallen over, this is back up now so if you have any capture or scenic photos you want to enter into the gallery, and next years half price membership competition, you can now upload them (max file size is 2mB).

Photo competetion winners announced

To encourage photo submission we’re running annual prizes of half-price membership for photos submitted in two categories of ‘carp’ & ‘non-carp’.  Judges decision is final and it’s not always about the biggest fish, it might be the ‘prettiest’ fish or it might just be a good photo.

The 2015 winner of the carp category is Andy Flower for his magnificent 23lb mirror from Howell’s

and in the non-carp category Shaun Birnie gets a special mention for his fine 16lb Totham Pit pike & Dan Hilton for a splendid 10lb slab from the canal but the winner is Dan Thornett for his perch also from the canal, maybe not the biggest specimen (that’s the perch not Dan) but it’s a great perch photo

Keep those pictures coming and we’ll be pleased to pick the winners again next year.
