Photo competetion winners announced

To encourage photo submission we’re running annual prizes of half-price membership for photos submitted in two categories of ‘carp’ & ‘non-carp’.  Judges decision is final and it’s not always about the biggest fish, it might be the ‘prettiest’ fish or it might just be a good photo.

The 2015 winner of the carp category is Andy Flower for his magnificent 23lb mirror from Howell’s

and in the non-carp category Shaun Birnie gets a special mention for his fine 16lb Totham Pit pike & Dan Hilton for a splendid 10lb slab from the canal but the winner is Dan Thornett for his perch also from the canal, maybe not the biggest specimen (that’s the perch not Dan) but it’s a great perch photo

Keep those pictures coming and we’ll be pleased to pick the winners again next year.

Photo competition latest

Might we have a new front runner in the non-carp category, I have just received this pic of a 16lb pike landed from Totham Pit by Shaun Birnie

I hope the editor likes predators!

Pike match at Totham Pit cancelled

The pike match at Totham Pit on Sun 31st Jan is cancelled but Nigel Barns is hoping to organise a pike match next season.

Torrential pike

I was at Totham Pit in the big storm a few months ago and the trees were falling down around me and I was sitting in torrential rain but luckily the pike were feeding! I had a 15lb a 10lb a 9lb and an 18.08

One of Dan’s 4 pike now featuring in our gallery.

Pike fishing red letter day

Alan Cleave doesn’t get out on the banks as often as he’d like too (we all know how he feels) so it’s great to hear that on this occasion he took full advantage of a trip to Totham Pit in search of its pike.

Alan’s session kicked off with a 10lb 4oz pike and he had soon added fish of  12lb 6oz and 10lb 11oz.  By the time Alan’s mobile signal kicked in again Totham Pit was like a mill pool and the carp were leaping ” there’s been an 18lb common out”.  Alan finished with five pike for a total weight of 55lb 7oz in a session just 4 1/2 hours long.  All where different fish and all clean.

The view from behind Alan’s rods on his red letter day.

Alan’s largest of the day at 12lb 7oz – all 5 of his pike can now be found in the gallery

No stillwater close season for pike

Members are reminded that we do not have a close season for pike on our stillwaters (as far as we know only Totham Pit, Little London and Heron Hall contain pike in any significant numbers).
