Learn how to fish

You might have caught some of Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse fishing for tench, bream, roach and rudd on TV last night and thought “I fancy giving that a go myself”.  If you did but you have no fishing tackle or any idea how to get started then the answer is at hand.  Contact Chris Burt at Angling Coaching Initiative who will be very happy to advise you further and can book you onto one of his angling coaching days.  All tackle will be provided for you to use free of charge on the day and you will only be asked to pay from £7.50 per session to cover the cost of the bait.  Chris is running several coaching days across a variety of Maldon AS and Kelvedon DAA fisheries and he can be contacted by phone on 07917 781299, by email at chris@candjb.co.uk, via the  Angling Coaching Initiative website which can be found at https://anglingcoachinginitiative.co.uk/ or by post at 3 Great Cob, Chelmsford, Essex CM1 6LA.

A happy student with a fine Tench landed at Rook Hall during a coaching session earlier this month.

Kelvin’s latest catch

This weeks catch is from Little Park Main lake this time 2 decent Bream at 8lb 1oz and 6lb 9oz, 4 more at about 2lb 8oz each and a decent Roach.

Nice to see that the big old Bream in Little Park obviously had a successful spawn a few years ago, as I’ve never had small bream from the lake before.

First Coaching Day for Angling Coaching Initiative – 19th May

Our first coaching day for ACI, and what a result. The first event for our voluntary coaching for Juniors and Adults alike, and the culmination of a lot of hard work by everyone, but this was the fun part!

We had 11 learners and seven of us to teach them, on a beautiful sunny day over at a small enclosed, tree lined water, Slough House West just north of Maldon. So all the tackle we’d acquired or bought with the Sport England Grant finally got an outing and did us proud for results. Everyone caught fish from the start, with roach being the main species, there was one lovely tench, plus perch, rudd and a few gudgeon and even the odd eel too. The carp though proved elusive, even the one that was hooked proved too much for the four metre elasticated whip it was hooked with and made its escape.

We heard lovely comments about how the day went, such as from one Dad “he had a great time, he’s been bragging to everybody he caught more fish than me!”  One girl caught far more than her brother too and she delighted in reminding him of it throughout the whole time.

Everyone loved it, and are rebooking to join us again. Interested? Then join us; enrol, book in with us or let us know if you’d like to learn more. Whether you’re just starting out, or wanting to get back into fishing again now, we cater for every level of ability! Join us long-term too, we can expand your skills as far as you wish!

Our web site is https://anglingcoachinginitiative.co.uk/ and the Angling Trust now have all our events listed, go to http://www.getfishing.org.uk/?s=&region-category%5B%5D=34&event-time under Eastern England.

I was after Roach but…

Kelvin Willis wrote:  This 12lb Common gave me the run around on a size 18, 3lb bottom end and an ultra light waggler rod. Thought I’d go down to see if I could get some Slough House roach on the long range light waggler, ended up with no roach, 2 bites, this carp and an ugly 3lb tench (see gallery) on single red maggot. Not quite the day I had expected but a good one nonetheless. Worryingly there were 2 Cormorants having a field day down there today.

Great day at Totham Pit

Great day at Totham Pit today, this little lot by 11am. Went on to land 2 more Tench and about 15 Roach all 8oz+ but lost 4 more Tench and a Carp in the weed :(

Thanks to Paul Kemp for the picture.

Biggest Tench 6lb 8ozish, Biggest Bream 7lbish, Rudd just over 1lb.

Great job on the trees by the way – Kelvin Willis.
