Elusive Little London Tench

It’s been a mission of mine for some time to have caught at least one tench out of every Maldon water that holds one. All of the other lakes came fairly easy but the Little London Tench has eluded me for some years. Until this week when fishing at long range on a sliding waggler I got one at 4lb 1oz along with a decent Bream at 6lb 2oz (see gallery) and some nice roach.

Mission accomplished!

I’d be interested to know if anyone has more than one Tench out of Little London in a sitting as they are very elusive, this one was totally unmarked and looked like it had never been caught before.

Learn how to fish

You might have caught some of Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse fishing for tench, bream, roach and rudd on TV last night and thought “I fancy giving that a go myself”.  If you did but you have no fishing tackle or any idea how to get started then the answer is at hand.  Contact Chris Burt at Angling Coaching Initiative who will be very happy to advise you further and can book you onto one of his angling coaching days.  All tackle will be provided for you to use free of charge on the day and you will only be asked to pay from £7.50 per session to cover the cost of the bait.  Chris is running several coaching days across a variety of Maldon AS and Kelvedon DAA fisheries and he can be contacted by phone on 07917 781299, by email at chris@candjb.co.uk, via the  Angling Coaching Initiative website which can be found at https://anglingcoachinginitiative.co.uk/ or by post at 3 Great Cob, Chelmsford, Essex CM1 6LA.

A happy student with a fine Tench landed at Rook Hall during a coaching session earlier this month.

Kelvin’s great year for Tench and Ide continues at Slough House Farm

Continuing a great year for Tench this time at Slough House with these six, biggest 4lb 9oz including (pretty sure) my old mate “Chin Tench”.

Also weighed these two Ide at 2-6-4 and 2-10-8 s two for just over 5lb.

Kelvin’s best ever day at Rook Hall

After raking out endless blanket weed at Rook Hall today, ended up having my best ever day at Rook Hall. 18 Tench, biggest 4.75lb smallest 2.5lb and a few Rudd and Roach. Too many for my unhooking mat so I made a fish friendly mat/container out of all the weed I had pulled out. Don’t think I’ll ever better that, have to find a new favourite venue now – Kelvin

I was after Roach but…

Kelvin Willis wrote:  This 12lb Common gave me the run around on a size 18, 3lb bottom end and an ultra light waggler rod. Thought I’d go down to see if I could get some Slough House roach on the long range light waggler, ended up with no roach, 2 bites, this carp and an ugly 3lb tench (see gallery) on single red maggot. Not quite the day I had expected but a good one nonetheless. Worryingly there were 2 Cormorants having a field day down there today.
