First shoot at Slough House West

The man who runs the little shooting syndicate on Slough House West has informed us that they propose to hold their first small shoot this coming Tues 16th Sep in the evening at around dusk.  He will warn any anglers using the lake and put up a notice at the entrance to the fishery.

Organised shoots at Slough House West

The owner of new lake Slough House West has recently informed us that a shooting syndicate use the lake and it will be closed for occasional organised shoots.  Notification of these shoots will be by way of a notice at the entrance to the fishery and the lake will not (at this time) be subjected to a close season similar to those we are obligated to enforce at Rook Hall and Whitehouse Farm as part of our lease agreements.  Hopefully disruption will be kept to a minimum as we believe that the shooting parties are only active at dawn and dusk.

Slough House West – please do not fish if a sign is on display to say that shooting is in progress (not that you would want to unless you wear a bullet proof vest and tin hat).

Presidents match venue change

The venue for this year’s Presidents match on Sat 30th Aug has been switched from Rook Hall to Slough House West due to the amount of weed at Rook Hall which makes finding 20 fishable pegs difficult.  Rook Hall will now be open to members on the 30th Aug and Slough House West will be closed from 10.30 am to 8pm on this date.

Joint biggest reported from Slough House West so far

New Water

We have acquired a new still water fishery, named Slough House West.  As the name implies, it lies close to our existing Slough House fishery.

The lake covers around 1.5 acres, has a small island, surrounding trees and reed beds and has a pretty uniform depth of about 3-5 feet.  Early reports are that the water contains a very good head of carp up to around mid doubles, lots of small roach, interspersed with some larger specimens, together with a few rudd and eels.

There are about 20 swims (though one is currently obstructed by a fallen tree). Some have platforms and please exercise care when using these as some of them have relatively narrow plank entrances.

Fishing is allowed from 5 am to 10 pm and the water opens on July 1st

Access is down the track directly opposite our entrance to Slough House Farm, but on the other side of Scraley Road. Please be aware that you are entering a working farm – look out for chickens, dogs, tractors etc.  Follow the track passing farm sheds on your left for 100 yards, or so, until you see a MAS notice on a building directly in front of you.  Turn left between the farm sheds and then right at the end, where there is another MAS sign.  The lake is then immediately in front of you.  Turn left and park in the open area next to the lake.  We will arrange for a better defined parking area when the landowner has cleared more of the site.

Dan’s first impressions of Slough House West

I went to have a look at the new lake this evening for an hour and me and my friend caught 5 fish in half an hours fishing, including this low double.  The fish are in very good condition and there seems to be quite a few small fish in the 5lb area but they were a pleasure to catch.  Over all I think the lake is going to be a success as long as people care for the fish and look after the lake, as it obviously hasn’t been fished much as the fish are in such good condition.

This Common is very distinctive, which is why we know it’s been caught four times already since the lake opened…..
