Chelmer & Blackwater Close Season

Members of Maldon AS, Chelmsford AA, Kelvedon DAA, Colchester APS and day ticket anglers are reminded that the last day of fishing on the Chelmer & Blackwater river/canal was Tuesday 14th March.  The Environment Agency will be enforcing the traditional 3 month close season between the 15th March and 15th June 2017 on the entire river/canal network.

Fortunately 16 of our stillwaters remain open between the 15th March and 15th June so MAS members (who have rejoined for the 2017-18 season) will not have to hang up their rods for 3 months.

Work party at Totham Pit on Sunday 19th March

Totham Pit will be closed from 8am on Sunday 19th March (not Mothers Day) for a working party.  All members willing to help out should gather by the container at 8am.  Paul is hoping to co-ordinate some extensive trimming up and removal of underwater snags where fish are often lost.  This work is needed prior to an application of Siltex being applied to the lake to improve the water quality before the next batch of carp are stocked.  All help will be gratefully received and members who attend the working party and leave their name with Paul will accrue a 10% discount towards their 2018-19 daytime membership fee.

Part of canal closed on Sun 18th Sep

We have taken a match booking for this Sunday 18th September on the River Chelmer.  The stretches at Boreham Black Bridge, Papermills and Browns Wharf will be closed to non-competitors.  Thanks - Russell.

The next work party will be on Sunday 17th April at Totham Pit

The next work party will be at Totham Pit on Sun 17th Apr starting at 8am (please meet by the container).  The plan (subject to approval from the owner) is to widen the bridge over the outflow to make it suitable for trollies, apply bark chippings and remove branches from the water.  All help you can give will be much appreciated and as this is an organised working party will contribute 10% discount towards your 2017-18 daytime membership fee.  The lake will be closed to fishing while the bankside works are completed.  For more info please contact Paul Kemp on the number listed in the 2016 rulebook.

Bog Grove closed on Friday 11th March

The car park and track at Bog Grove have now been resurfaced/repaired.

Howells closed on Sunday 13th March

Howells will be closed to members on Sunday 13th March so that a number of the small Commons up to 10lb in weight that have bred in this lake can be moved to Little Park.  There will also be some disruption at Little Park throughout the day when the fish are introduced into their new home.  This date coincides with the Carpin On show at Five Lakes so hopefully disruption to our members fishing time has been minimised.

Howells lake – removing the smaller carp hopefully means that the big ones will get even bigger.
