Keepnet ban lifted on all venues

Keepnets can now be used at all of our fisheries.

Members only

Please remember that EVERYONE visiting a Society fishery must be a card carrying member (rule 1.4 refers).  Fishing while accompanied by non-members can result in a warning/suspension from the Society.

Please don’t forget your membership card on the canal

Members are reminded to carry their membership cards with them when fishing the canal or be asked to buy a day ticket.

Gasping fish hotline

If you see fish in distress and/or gasping on the surface at any of our fisheries please contact Ken Saffill on 07585 802284 or by email on seafisherken@gmail.com

If Ken is not available you can also contact Ben at the Environment Agency on 03708 506506.

Ken will be able to test the dissolved oxygen levels to determine if this is the cause of the situation and has access to aeration pumps to deploy them at the venue.

Keepnets are still banned due to the continued hot weather

Keepnets are still completely banned on all of our stillwaters as the unexpectedly hot summer by British standards is predicted to continue for at least the next couple of weeks.  This ban is due to reduced oxygen levels in the margins brought on by the continued hot weather.  We have been monitoring dissolved oxygen levels in the margins with our oxygen meter over the last few weeks and levels have continued to drop forcing the committee to act now to protect the welfare of our valuable fish stocks.  This decision will be reviewed again at the September committee meeting.  The ban includes matches but excludes our river sections where the flowing water helps maintain a higher level of dissolved oxygen.

Our oxygen meter has been well used in the last few months.

This is the notice that you will see at the entrance to our stillwaters.

Howells gate

The Howells gate is regularly being left unlocked by members, not farm workers.  While we appreciate that the padlock can be a bit tricky to close at the best of times, the next person caught leaving the gate unsecured will be made an example of - The Howells Bailiffing Team.
