Next Chelmer Canal Trust Work Party – Saturday morning 7th October

For our next work party, on Saturday, 7th October, we will again be taking part in the Chelmer City Council Autumn Rivers Clean Up. We start off, following the traditional Press Photo with the Mayor, at 9.00am. It’s a good opportunity to get rubbish out of the system at the top end of the Navigation, and therefore to have less likelihood of problems further downstream. Many will be familiar with fouled propellers, wildlife being adversely affected, scenic beauty being reduced, and so on.

For those who are regulars at this event, please note that, as in March, the meeting point is now the Baddow Road car park which is off Parkway in Chelmsford – you need to be heading along Parkway from the Odeon Roundabout towards the Army and Navy Roundabout to be able to get into the car park. Put CM2 7PJ into your SatNav, smartphone, etc. or click on this link Baddow Road Car Park for a map showing the location of the car park. It is across the river from the previous meeting place near the Essex Record Office. If you come by car please ensure that you get your free car parking voucher which you can request when you sign in.

We plan to have a work boat there, and there are plenty of litterpicking opportunities in the area. We tend to prioritise the river below the automatic weir, Springfield Lock and the lock Cut, Springfield Basin and the areas around them.

Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the prevailing conditions. All tools and equipment are provided – but you are welcome to bring anything that works especially well for you. We stop for refreshments about half way through the work party – for this particular work party it is usually soup and bacon sandwiches in the Sea Scout building – and try to finish by about midday – but by all means leave earlier if you need to do so.

We hope to see you on Saturday.  Kind regards – Neil
