Rule Reminder – New Swims

Due to one or maybe more of our Members taking it upon themselves to cut out a new swim, and also cut or hack branches off of an oak tree in another swim at Totham Pit. I would like to remind all members of a couple of the society rules, which are as follows.

(Rule 9)

On waters where swims are already provided no member shall cut down extra reeds or vegetation.

On waters where swims are not provided, members shall be allowed to cut down only sufficient reeds & vegetation to form a swim.

Trees are not to be cut or otherwise damaged on any society water at any time except as deemed necessary by the Fishery Management Officer. (Rule 9)

(Rule 1)

The breaking of any society rule will result in disciplinary action, which could include withdrawal of membership by the committee.

If any member feels that more swims are needed on one of our waters, then they should get in touch with a member of the Fishery Management Team, then if it is agreed that there is a need for extra swims, the work can be carried out at an organised work party.

Tight Lines to you all

Purchase Guest Tickets Online

It’s back! It’s taken sometime but we are pleased to announce you can again purchase your guest tickets online. You’ll find a link on the top menu or under the membership heading menu. Remember guests can claim up to £5.50 off full membership if they decide to join and provide proof of purchase.

We recommend you following the instructions shown on the page fully, failure to complete the required fields correctly could result in both you and your guest being asked to leave the waters edge. We would also like to remind you that you are responsible for your guest actions so it’s probably best to provide them with a copy of the MAS Rules which you can now download – Maldon Angling Society Club Rules. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (free software) to view and print the rules.

EA Launch New Rod Licence Service

New Look Rod Licence

New Look Rod Licence

The Environment Agency has launched its new rod licence service today and new prices. The new design (pictured) is much more convenient, the licence is water resistant and credit-card sized making it easy to fit into your wallet, purse or pocket. Fewer of your personal details are on display on the rod licence making it more secure for you.

The new licence can be purchased online, by direct debit, at your local post office or by phone.

For full details visit the EA website.

Great Work Party at Totham Pit

Just a quick note to say what an excellent work party we had on Sunday 15 Feb 09, we managed to clear a fair bit of rubbish from the car park (still some to go to the scrap yard). Some of the guys went off and cleared the outflow pipe and the overgrowing vegetation in some of the swims.

The rest of us cleared a lot of the dead wood and fallen trees from the island area and from behind Colliers Bay.

I would personally like to thank, Sam Gower, Danny Gower, Andy Thomas, Dean Andrews, James Swinden, Matt Gothard, Malcolm Gardiner, Bomber, Paul Kemp, Jack Walker & Pete Newell for all their hard work – a JWD (job well done).

Thanks Lads & I hope to see you all at the next one.

Regards from
Laurence Reeves – Fishery Management Officer
