Bill runs away with Little London match

Congratulations to Bill Claydon who left the other competitors trailing in his wake recently when he won a match at Little London Reservoir with a 44lb+ haul that included a 15lb carp and some big bream.  This, and all of our other match results from May, can now be found on our new Match Results page (new page now listed under Match Dates above).

Our rivers have now been open for over a week…

…and we are yet to receive any photos for inclusion in the gallery of Chub, Dace, large Roach, Gudgeon (the one caught at Bog Grove doesn’t qualify) or the very elusive Barbel caught from the River Blackwater or the Chelmer & Blackwater canal.  I am sure these fish are being caught so please do not hesitate to send them in and if the photos are of reasonable quality we will add you to our gallery (honestly its not just for carp) and hopefully replace this item with some real news from our river sections.  Photos from day ticket anglers as well as from our partner clubs (CAA, KDAA and DDPS) will be gratefully accepted.

Car Park at Museum of Power in Langford

Please note that anglers fishing the Speeney stretch of the Chelmer & Blackwater canal cannot currently access the car park at the rear of the museum of power.  We still have a sign on the gate which we have left up as we are negotiating to get our car parking permission back. We hope to have access shortly so watch this space and as soon as there is a change in the situation we will let you know.

Catch News

Todays gallery updates include big Bream from Little London Reservoir for Sophie and Eddie French, a new personal best Common for Peter Hanson who joined recently and broke his PB with his second Maldon AS fish caught on a 1 inch cube of spam fished less than 1 rod length out at Howells, and Scott Parry who got fed up sitting behind static indicators at Totham Pit so went stalking and caught a lovely dark Common.  My pic of the bunch though is this cracking 17lb 8oz Common from Rook Hall for gallery regular Jack Walker:

Blackwater Country Show

Come and visit us on our stall at The Blackwater Country Show from 10am this Sunday 14th June.  We are sharing a stall with the Environment Agency and new members who collect a signed application form on the day may claim a 20% discount on subscriptions for the 2009/10 season.  Rook Hall fishery will be closed for the day as it is being used as a car park for the event.

Howelling Success

The photo of Kris’s thirty from Howells has arrived and Kris takes up the story:

I got to the venue at first light Friday morning, and did a couple of laps of the lake, didn’t really see much just the odd one or two shows from small fish so decided to set up in a swim that controls a lot of water. I managed 4 takes during the day but only landed 2 due to hook pulls which I wasn’t very happy about. It was about 7 o clock that evening when my left hand rod started peeling line. Whilst playing it at the beginning I didn’t think it was much bigger than 10lb until it was under the rod tip then it seemed a bit better. After about 20 mins I finally had its head up and she is kissing the spreader block. As I was preparing the unhooking mat my girlfriend lifted the fish with a struggle and placed her down while I unhooked it. As I don’t really fish this venue I was unaware of what fish it was and as I didn’t lift the fish out of the water I was unaware of the weight until the scales flew round and settled on 30lb 2oz. After a few snaps, I got the kettle on for a brew to try and stop me shaking.

Well done Kris!
