Club match on Sunday 18th June moved to Slough House West

The club match on Sunday 18th June has been moved to Slough House West due to it clashing with the Blackwater Country Show at Rook Hall – Thanks Russell.

Ben banks his first surface caught carp

This was for a coarse / carp session at Heron Hall. Thunderstorms went around us, had a couple of showers but nothing scary.  Ben lost a carp on the bottom mid afternoon, had loads of rudd, ide, some tench and a small common and mirror. Then around 7 o’clock I broke out the floater gear. Loads taking off top, managed to nick a 13lb 4oz mirror and then Ben had a 10lb 8oz mirror and lost another one short of the net.  Guess what, he wants to do more floater fishing now.

First floater fished carp banked for Ben !!

Mixed bags of bits for a few hours before the floater fishing commenced.
Please note appropriate use of the unhooking mat to prevent damage to any of our stock.

Howells gets a haircut

Good news for all hay fever sufferers, a path has been cut around Howells through the long grass

Al’s big silver

This rather nice roach (or hybrid?) fell to two sweetcorn haired to a size 12 under a locslide float.  Here’s the obligatory ‘fish on a landing net and unhooking mat with float and rod for scale :-D ’ photo.  Didn’t have my scales with me (again!) runs about 31/32 cm long, the locslide float is 15cm long so there’s a measure.

Other than some pesky perch and a few more hand size roach a quiet day…. apart from the carp going doolally spawning and thrashing about.

As an aside this is my first year back regular fishing since I was a lad of 13/14 :-) so far this year I’ve had a 13lb pike the other week, a 5lb+ tench out of Rook Hall and a 10.6 common out of Little Park (that’s one of my personal goals for this year done a double carp, am still up for the 20lb pike) – Al.

A hard match was fished at Totham Pit

A hard match was fished at Totham Pit with only two able to catch fish, Russell Samuels managed to land two nice Tench of 6lbs 3oz and 5lbs 3oz but he also lost three fish of a good weight. Following close behind him was Bill Woollcott with a massive Perch of 1oz 8drms which took him all of 5 seconds to land. Three other matchmen were unable to find any fish!!

Russ with his fine brace of Tench.
