Please treat our biggest asset with care

Members and guests are reminded to treat the fish they catch with the respect they deserve and always use a suitable sized landing net and an unhooking mat.  Current rule (6.9) states that an unhooking mat is only compulsory when fishing for carp and pike but this will change on the 1st April 2017 to try and prevent fish of any species being laid on the ground.  This rule change does not take immediate effect to allow everyone plenty of time to buy a mat that is suitable for both them and the fish they catch.  Please ensure in hot weather that your mat is sufficiently ‘wetted down’ or covered with a wet weigh sling to further protect your catch.

Evening workparty at Slough House Farm

Slough House Farm will be closed to fishing from 5pm on Monday 8th August for a working party to open up some of the swims which have become overgrown.  Any help you can give will be gratefully received.

Totham Pit gate

Please be aware that the key padlock on the gate at Totham Pit will be replaced with a combination lock on the morning of Monday 1st Aug.  The lock number can be found on the back of your 2016-17 membership card and on page one of your yellow 2016 rulebook.

Vets National

Five members from Maldon Angling Society fished the Angling Trust Veterans National at Tunnel Barn Fishery, Warwick. Everyone gave a good account of themselves promoting Maldon AS with excellent results.

• Geoff Forman 1st in section with 22 kg
• Steve Holdon 1st in section with 28 kg
• Kim Naish 2nd in section 20 kg (pipped to the post by Geoff)
• Bill Woollcott and Roger Smith also gave good accounts of themselves

Bill, Kim, Steve and Roger at the end of the match, Geoff had to leave before the photo was taken!

A good time was had by all and we are looking forward to next year’s AT Veterans National which is being held at Partridge Lakes.  Thanks – Kim.

Please don’t dump leftover bait on the bankside

Members are reminded that dumping unwanted bait on the bank at the end of a session is breaking rule 7.3 – ‘Surplus bait must not be left on the bank’ as this encourages rodents around our fisheries and most of the rats are large enough already.
Our bailiffs are on the lookout for the couple who fished peg 16 at Little Park and departed leaving this pile of bait behind:

One bream short of a ton

I have just received news that the CAA match at Beeleigh on Sunday was won by Chris Dyall with a top weight of 95lbs 4oz, 14 Bream the biggest weighing 10lbs.

Here are three of the Bream – we believe that 95lb 4oz is a river match record for the Chelmer & Blackwater canal, the next best weight that can be recalled is around 69lb.  If you know differently feel free to let our webmaster@maldonas.co.uk know.
